Borrowing Policies

The East Hampton Public Library lends a wide variety of items from books to movies to music.  Patrons may have up to 100 items checked out at one time.

 

Loan Periods

All East Hampton items are loaned for 28 days with the following exceptions:

Material Type Loan Period
New Adult Books and Lucky Day Books 14 Days
DVDs, BluRay, TV Series and Video Games 7 Days
Magazines 14 Days
Museum Passes 3 Days

Please remember that other LION libraries may have different loan periods.

Renewals

All items can be renewed for two additional loan periods, as long as there is not another patron waiting for the item.  If you need more time with an item, please call us.  The only items that cannot be renewed are Lucky Day Books and Movies.

Late Fees

All library items accrue late fees of $.10 per day with the exception of DVDs, BluRays and TV series which accrue at $1.00 per day.  Late fees are capped at $10.00 per item.

If you can’t pay your late fee, please come talk to us.  We’re always willing to work with you.  We want you to use and enjoy your library.

 

Holds

Patrons may request up to 100 items from other LION libraries.  East Hampton receives delivery from other LION libraries twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Once an item arrives in East Hampton you will have one week to pick it up.

Lost, Damaged or Billed Items

Patrons are billed for items that are over 28 days late.  Once the item is returned, the bill is taken off of the card and all that remains is a late fee.  

If an item is returned in such condition that we cannot lend it to another patron, you may be billed for that item. 

We do not accept replacement items for lost or damaged items.

If you are being billed for a lost or damaged item and you cannot pay, please come talk to us.  It’s never as bad as you think it is and we’re always willing to work with you.  We want you to use and enjoy your library.
